Decathlon Evening 10 Series by Wrekinsport event No.6 2022 - report

A tough evening saw times down in Round 6 of The Decathlon Evening 10 Series by Wrekinsport – but it didn’t change the winner as Tomos Hales stormed to his 6th straight win and a maximum possible 36 points. Hales looks a shoo-in for the title even with nine rounds to go as he powered towards the finish line in 22 minutes 28 seconds, 25 seconds down from his Round 5 effort thanks to a stiff southerly wind that hampered progress on the ’back’ leg between Cotwall Bank and Shawbirch.

Two visiting riders got closest with Bridgnorth CC’s Jonathan Mills-Keeling taking the runner-up spot in 22:56 whilst Paramount CRT’s Chris Riley took the remaining podium place in 23:29, 29 seconds down on his Round 5 effort. Phil Roberts was the closest of Wrekinsport’s own riders in 24:16, just a single second ahead of Richard Howes and lies in the runner-up spot in the Series 10 points adrift.

Before this race Ben Wood an ave Moore were tying for the lead of the Road Bike Series, but Wood got the better of the night in 26:11, 21 seconds ahead of Moore to open a slender one point lead.

There was a good turnout of three Juniors with Bridgnorth CCs Nathan Fullwood best place in 4th overall on 23:36 – a fabulous time on a road bike, with Ben Southgate on 24:36 and Cerys Greaves winning the Women’s race on 26:16. However that didn’t stop Clare O’Donnell returning to the head of the Women’s Series standings as she gets used to racing on a dedicated time trial bike.
